Characteristics of a good coaching relationship
Our HI Coaches-in-Training subscribe to a set of characteristics we know are important and essential in order for a good coaching relationship to exist. You will gain professionally and personally from a coaching engagement with the following set of characteristics:
• Carefully crafted coaching contract. This is the first order of great coaching, getting a clear contract around what the client wants to change, improve, and achieve in the course of the coaching engagement.
• Outcome measurements. The coach and client create ways to measure progress and results relative to the coaching goals. At the conclusion of the coaching engagement it’s important for all parties to articulate the outcomes and positive results.
• Feedback mechanisms. A coach will provide feedback, encouragement and candid conversations, balancing the need to support with the need to challenge. Coaching is not giving advice. Coaching helps individuals and leaders achieve clarity about their goals and identify the skills needed for making changes in their lives.

Understanding my role as the coachee/client??
You are seeking to make some changes big or small, relative to your work as a business owner, and an individual balancing work and life. An essential ingredient in successful coaching is the articulation of your goals. What outcomes are you looking for and how will you assess successful attainment of these outcomes? Your clarity in these areas will help you guide a successful coaching relationship and realize your intended outcomes.
The bulk of the work rests with you. While a coach can guide the process, ultimately, you will be the one to implement the action steps along the way. The pace of your progress is heavily influenced by your willingness and ability to work at your own identified issues and to take steps that serve your own stated outcomes.
